Health officials in UK have said the Delta variant is on the rise with 36,800 cases reported on Friday, indicating a 17% rise over the previous week.

Public Health England (PHE) stated that though the cases continue to rise, the number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 has not increased, thus suggesting that vaccination is effective against the more transmissible Delta variant. Among the 36,800 cases of Delta variant over the past week, 45 have been from the Delta AY.1 sub lineage.
